This is a part of a trip USA 2019.

The Transfer

We arrived at Vienna Airport at 09:13 on OS66, which was delayed due to the weather at Chicago Airport. Since both of our boarding passes were issued in Chicago and bags tagged to Bangkok, we proceed to departure level. There is no additional security screening for flights arriving from the USA at Vienna.

Lounging Around

We went to Austrian lounge, which is the exact same lounge we used on the outbound trip. We wanted to take a shower but only one Star Alliance Gold card shower was available. I thought the way the lounge attendants handled the request was on the rude side. We have noticed that the lounge attendant here seems to not smile and look down on us since our outbound flight.

Anyways, we spent most of our time in transit in the lounge. It was refreshing to have coffee after the long flight.

Boarding & Taking Off

After boarding, the cabin crew showed us to our seat. I got Orange Juice for my pre-departure drink, whist my companion just got water. From boarding, we know this crew is going to be great!

Menus, amenity kits, and a pair of slipper were placed on the seat upon boarding. The return flight was a Lacoste kit instead of the Mariana Duck.

It was a clear and beautiful day in Vienna. Take off was on time and there were no queue at Vienna Airport either.

The Seat

Exactly like out outbound flight, our 787-8 features the B/E Aerospace seat which is laid out in 2-2-2 configuration.

The Lunch

My post take-off beverage was Coke Zero, my companion, also Coke Zero:

Table set up with appetizer:

My main course was a pre-ordered “Viennese Veal Goulash with Sour Cream”:

Cheese and Fruit course:

Dessert which was Nougat Tart with Mascapone Cream:

Overall, it was an alright meal: quite good but not superb either. The appetizer was good, the main course was also nice. I really liked the dessert, being a chocolate lover. Throughout the meals, the cabin crew was super friendly, also suggesting if we needed any extra dishes in case we did not like what we ordered.

The Sleep

THAI also offered mattress pad on long-haul business class flights, which proved to be quite comfortable. The cabin crews (not just one) asked me three (!) times for the turn down service. At first I declined, but at last gave in and let them turn down the bed for me. I really appreciated their gesture. The sleep was also quite good on this flight.

My companion requested the instant noodle (All Day Dine), which was quite good.

The Breakfast

Breakfast service was served on one tray:

As mentioned on the outbound, I find the boiled rice soup on THAI to be a hit or a miss (50-50 chance). This one was definitely a hit! Overall, it was a very good breakfast on this flight.

Landing

We landed into the dawn at Suvarnabhumi Airport, a few minutes before schedule time of arrival. We were parked at the bus gate, which means we have to walk down the steps into the hot and humid weather to take the bus into the terminal.

The Experience

Overall, this was quite a good flight on THAI’s 787-8 from Vienna to Bangkok. On this flight, I was really impressed with the service quality, the friendliness of the crew, and how they are very proactive in taking care of the passengers. The food on this flight was also better than the outbound.
