Checking In
Lounging Around
There are many Cathay Pacific lounges at Hong Kong Airport. Usually, people will choose the lounge that is closet to their departure gate. This time, I choose to visit “The Deck”, which is the newest lounge in the Airport, and one of two in the new Cathay lounge design (the other being The Pier).
The Deck provides a breathtaking view of the runway and I spent my time there watching planes coming in to land. I also got a beef brisket noodle from the Noodle Bar.
Boarding & Taking Off
Boarding was on-time from Gate 61.
My pre-departure beverage was “Cathay Delight”. It is CX’s signature drink which is a mixture of Coconut, Kiwi and Mint.
The Seat
The Business Class cabin on the A330-300 is slightly older than the A350-1000 I had on the outbound. However, the reverse herringbone seat was more than adequate for the short haul flight. I always appreciate the ability to sit by myself while flying alone.
The entertainment screen on the A330-300 is also a bit older than the A350. However, the image quality was still good and I managed to watch 5 episodes of 2 Broke Girls on this flight.
Before taking off, one of the steward must have known I was a bit thirsty. He bought me a bottle of Evian before we took off and I was pleasantly surprised by this service gesture.

Landing
The captain estimated a landing time of 20:15. Due to congestion we were on hold for a while, and landed a few minutes early of schedule. With no checked bags and automatic immigration gates, I was out of the airport in 15 minutes.
The Experience
Overall it was a nice way to fly back from Hong Kong to Bangkok. The highlight of the trip was of course the lounge, which I think Cathay to have one of the best Business Class lounges in the World. The crew on this flight were also outstandingly friendly.
